Resume – First Impression!!!

In the interest of the recent graduates, who are out there looking for the first break/job, to start their professional career. We have put down our observations hoping it will assist the candidates to address some of the key sections to focus on their resume. When you are out their amongst the large community of job seekers, You just cannot be complacent, rather need to present uniquely to get shortlisted. and how does this work,

Well the only way is to keep your profile/resume simple!

Sounds easy… Well not really!!! Over the past few months, we have noticed that most of the Recent Graduates have something in common in their resumes (well, it’s in fact exact sentences).

Particularly, in the below sections of the resume.

Career Objective

Many of the profiles has the same old paragraphs look like a copy/paste work.

  • Please try to spend some time on this section, you don’t have to use complex jargons.
  • keep it simple, you are seeking your first job and cannot expect much of hands on exp but good technical skills.

Ex: “Recent graduate with a degree in Computer Science seeking an entry-level position in IT.  Eager to apply my technical skills and problem-solving abilities to contribute to a dynamic  IT team and gain hands-on experience in the field.”

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • The Recruiter/Interviewer would focus onto get the right candidate to fill the position.
  • Please mention ONLY those applications/tools/services that you are familiar/used in your projects during your course.
  • This will help to shortlist candidate and during interview ask relevant questions ‘What, When and How’ the apps/services were used.
  • Mention the core skills/knowledge that you have developed over the years and how you have utilized it to get things done.

Projects

Lastly Projects (Mini, Main or any other projects – completed during your studies) – The candidate needs to articulate the purpose, goals and how it was accomplished using technical tools (applications, services et al). This will help to gauge the candidate’s technical knowledge and the interviewer would focus on.

While addressing the above, also ensure that the resume does not go beyond two pages at the most.
